Happy Mama's Day!

My mom and I have had an up and down relationship over the years. (How could it not be when teenage years were involved?) But as our relationship has deepened in adulthood, it's definitely become a blessing in my life.

My mom gets my sarcasm and the way I see the world. She's always willing to help with my horde of kids and is even willing to let us invade her home while we try to find our next home. PLUS, she's clearing a space for my drill press. Enough said.

Thanks for all you do, Mom.

P.S. And thanks to my boys for letting me realize how much I truly love being a mom. You guys are my world--smelly armpits, snotty noses, and all.

Ornaments Round Two?

Christmas Ornament Bonanza!

Pretty proud of this one.

It moves.

It's called a "Cine-Fader" and, while it is intended to provide a fade in/out on movie projectors, I think it makes a pretty awesome head.

Mini Bot

The aforementioned robot creature caused some issues between the youngest of my brood, so I made a Mini Bot from a baby sock for my two-year-old.

Yes, the robot does have a mohawk.

Today is my dad's 71st birthday, and what better way to say "Happy Birthday" than with a robotic representation of his favorite page from one of his favorite books? (And, yes, the pencil sharpener does indeed work.)

Octopi

Itty bitty octopi!  The "big" one is about two inches tall.  The smaller one is less than 3/4 inches.

Note the little suction cups on the underside of the big one's legs!

Here's my theory on the little one: he's a rare four-legged octopus. His parents are hoping the other four legs will sprout at some point. And, of course, like all good parents, they love him anyway.

A Touch of Femininity

For some reason, I've been making some girl bots lately.  Weird.

This little lady will be heading to Mash Handmade soon.

Miss Daisy

You don't have to drive this petite pup around, but she certainly doesn't mind if you do. As an Italian Bothound, Daisy has a sweet spirit . . . and super skinny legs.  Those adoring eyes are eclipsed only by her robot dog collar.

Rescued and reassembled for the most devoted Dog Rescuer ever, my friend Sarah.  Miss Daisy has a vintage cookie press body, typewriter hammer legs, shot glass head, vegetable steamer ears, knob nose, clock part eyes, clock spring tail, and recycled dog collar.

Meow, Meow?

As noted, cats aren't really my thing, but the response to the silly cat robot has been weirdly positive. So much so that I had to make another for someone else. Here's the two choices I came up with:

I'm not a cat person, but I had a request.

His head is a vintage taillight set on its side, and his legs are the handles from wood-working planes.

 

I used miscellaneous metal pieces and a small plane inside the cigar box to provide enough counterweight to keep him from tipping forward.
