Day 318 - 70's Robot . . . Literally

A robot of 70's for the man who changed my life with the words, "Drill Press."

Day 317 - Time Out

Today, The RustMaker earned himself a time out.  Oddly enough, he went and hasn't moved since.

Boys, why can't you be more like The RustMaker?

(Oh, and I also experimented with my first metallic Sharpie!)

Day 316 - More Package Doodles

When entertaining company and mailing packages, throw in a robot doodle and call it A-Robot-A-Day.

Day 315 - Fire Hydrant

It suddenly occurred to Norman that he looked a lot like a fire hydrant.  Back away slowly, Norman, back away.

Day 314 - Dr. Ro and Mr. Bot

Returning to my brood of boys, but leaving my sister . . .

Sad and Happy

Day 313 - Multitasking

I asked my sister to draw me a robot while I got my hair cut.

Day 312 - Florida Found Robots

I have a $20 Walmart flip phone, and I used it to take pictures of robots when my sister took me to some flea markets.  Enjoy.  (If you squint, it might make the picture seem clearer.)

This is Clanky, a plastic robot syrup bottle.  My sister said it looked like an astronaut, but it's named CLANKY, for goodness sakes!

I got this fantastic Robot Mood Ring at a flea market (it's bright orange!).  The seller was all, "Okaaaay . . ." when I bought it, and I was all, "You're the one selling it, lady!"

And here's some robots AT my sister's house.  The JOY one is one of my very first, and, yes, that other one is a robot made from vintage harvest-colored Tupperware.

Post 311 - Flying

I'm embarking on a trip to visit my sister.  I hate flying.  But wouldn't it be awesome to make a robot with a little jet pack on?  Hmmm . . .

Day 309 - Give me a J

Tomorrow's my 15 year anniversary, and I wanted to do something . . . different?

Not sure if this qualifies as "robot," but my six-year-old said it's made out of robot parts.  I'm declaring it close enough because I worked on it most of the day and didn't have the energy/time/creativity to do something else.

Day 308 - The Beginning of the End?

In my illustrious career, I had yet to make a cat bot. It's no secret that I'm no cat lover. BUT . . . this really nice repeat customer asked me to make a kitten look-alike for her friend's daughter.

So I made the cat with a spool thread, playing on the cat/yarn love affair.  I figured the spool was kind of cream colored like Meadow (the afore-mentioned cat), so I added dark ears, nose, feet, and tail.  I even tried to color the eyes a blue color on top of the screws and, of course, I gave her a few little whiskers.

I'm not sure how I feel about this new development.  Mostly, I feel like a traitor.  Cats!

Day 305 - Crop Circles

Today, I mowed the lawn for the first time in my life.  What happened defies rational thought.

I've had a sketch artist provide a rendering of the miracle.

That's right.  A crop robot?!  Blows your mind, doesn't it?

Day 304 - Baseball

It's that time of year again . . . baseball has begun for my two oldest boys.

Norman's been practicing in the off season and has perfected a good knuckle ball . . . or he thinks he is the knuckle ball.  Not sure.

Day 303 - Disorganization Begets Robots?

Some call it rampant disorganization, I call it art.

Day 302 - Highway Robot

I pass this contraption every time I head home from town. (I tracked it down on Google Maps, and this was the best angle I could get.)

I think of it as a robot sentry, guarding the highway from unseen danger.

It looks a little like this from the front.

Day 299 - Mother's Day

I've officially brainwashed my children.  My work here is done . . .

Day 298 - Battle Droid Bowling

My son had a birthday party today--we made several Star Wars themed decorations, but together we came up with the idea of Battle Droid Bowling.  The birthday boy drew battle droids on the oversized pins and made the bowling ball the Death Star.

Day 297 - Dachshund Anyone?

Commissioned Dachshund from a family's inherited woodworking tools.

Day 296 - RoboFlower

April showers bring May robo-flowers . . .

Day 295 - Six Word Memoir

Paraphrase of Noah's Day 128:  Make a six-word autobiography/memoir.  Bonus:  Illustrate it.

For a whole lot more six word memoirs, go to www.sixwordmemoirs.com.  You should write one!

Day 294 - Should Be Teaching

Not good when even the teacher keeps doodling . . . no one's mind seems to be on American immigration in the 1800's.  (The creative flow for a more productive Robot-a-Day has been stemmed by the weekend's art show.)

Day 292 - Utter Exhaustion

Post-show exhaustion.  Even Norman feels it.

Day 291 - What's the Story behind that Bot?

With a show tomorrow, I've been writing the bios (stories) for some of my new robots.

Chip

Chip’s a little bot, but he’s got a BIG heart.  He’s into championing causes and standing up for the underdog.  Today, his platform is saving innocent robots from landfills, tomorrow who knows?  Let him give your latest cause a voice.  Choose Chip!

Miss Maci
For Miss Maci, the Boston Tea Party was actually all about tea.  Taxes or no taxes, as a refined lady bot, she’s unwilling to let tea time pass by unnoticed.

Is it time for you to set sail on her robot seas?  Feel free to stow some secrets away in her canister body, and make sure you enjoy a spot ‘o tea along the way.

Annabelle
The rumors are true, Annabelle is a morning person, but don’t hold it against her.  She knows not everyone is.  Her quiet cheerfulness is complimented by her slightly oversized cup (because she knows some people need a little extra caffeine to get going).

Store tea bags, sugar packets, or secret treasure in her body, and let the soothing tick-tock of her working alarm clock head be the rhythm of your mornings.

Scooter

Sleek and silver, Scooter is intent on being taken more seriously.  Sure, he has a sifter head (that clicks and clacks when squeezed), but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have feelings, too.

Scooter is ready to face the world with a canister-ful of responsibility.  That’s why he insisted on the Memo Holder addition.  Never fear, your important notes will never be lost with Scooter near.

Are you the one—the one who’s ready to give Scooter a chance to show the world what he’s made of?  I think you just might be.

Pinky

Pinky is a bit on the smaller side, but what does she care?  Cuteness often comes in the smallest packages, and no one can deny her intrinsic cuteness. So if you’ve been looking for a delicate little pup who’s also easy on the eyes, Pinky’s the one for you.
