Day 283 - You're a Sifter Head
I only took a picture of this guy's head because the body was still downstairs recovering from post-op surgery. Why, yes, yes he does have a sifter for a head!

Day 282 - Steampunk Airship
In a land where robots thrive and sail the skies in style . . .
This airship is made solely from recycled materials, including: aluminum malt shaker body, vintage dust-mask engine and landing gear, typewriter hammer propeller, hinge wings accented with clock parts, and ornate gas lamp valve on top.
While the rubber band tethers on the side help keep the lid in place, they can be released for super secret storage in the airship itself. Yes, that's right, it has storage, too!!

Day 280 - Edit, Edit, Edit
I spent some time editing a few of my robots. Sometimes they just don't have "it" the first time around.
I'm particularly fond of the penguin's mohawk, though sadly it doesn't light up.

Day 279 - Earth Day!
SUPPORT ROBOT RESCUE!
Did you know that, each year, 17 million robots go without
arms and legs and that some never get a chance to see through transplanted
eyes? In fact, every day, 4 out of 5
robot parts are cast into landfills to simply rust away.
However, there is hope.
Together, we can break the never-ending cycle of waste and
dismemberment.
At Robot Rescue International, our mission is to rescue,
reassemble, and release robots into the world again. We believe that, while all robots are not created
equal, they ARE endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that
among these are Life, Personality, and the Pursuit of Appendages.
Please join us in this crusade to end robot cruelty. Save a life.
Buy a robot.
ABOUT THE ROBOT RESCUE COALITION
From recycled and found objects, those things you may
remember from kitchens and garages of years past, comes the artwork of Rebecca
Jackson. Her delight lies within taking
things apart and reassembling the pieces in unexpected ways. From this aesthetic process emerges quirky
robots and steampunk art.
When she goes on rescue missions, she doesn’t see flashlights,
canisters, or teapots. She sees bodies,
heads, and missing legs. Her workshop
surfaces are littered with these body parts, and after trial-and-error limb and
head transfusions, a robot takes shape.
As she drills and bolts them together, their personalities develop, and
the components tell a story that gives each one its own sense of individuality
and background.
Each finished piece of art reminds her that being a little
different is not necessarily a bad thing (and that her obsession with metal
objects is, at least, partially justified).

Day 277 - Miss Maci
Stayed up late working on this little lady--from start to finish. Now that doesn't happen very often anymore.

Day 276 - Package Doodles
So I'm running low on energy and time--it's been a long week. But who doesn't love a package doodle? It makes mail doubly fun . . . just go with it.

Day 275 - Pen Thieves
I have a hard time holding onto my pens around here. My boys are always swiping, losing, or destroying them. But never fear! I have found a SOLUTION! And it involves my weird robo-creature.
Now--now I know exactly where my favorite pen is, and the boys will have to think twice about stealing it since it's not innocently laying on the desk, defenseless.
At least that's the plan.

Day 274 - McRobot
My kindergartener helped make a robot today at our lunch for two. I took this picture with my fancy $20 phone from Walmart that everyone makes fun of, but look, it can take highly-pixelated, tiny pictures!

Day 273 - Norman Makes the Cut
Getting new business cards, just in time for the May show. Took me a little bit to decide if I wanted to get the usual "boring" cards of before or branch out a little. In the end, it wasn't too hard of a decision--it's time to share Norman with the world.

Day 272 - Things That Make You Go Hmmm
Not sure what this little robotic creature is, but, gosh, darn it, I like him.

Day 270 - Robot Commission
I met with two very nice woman today who are interested in commissioning a robot from some family "heirlooms" (translation: awesome tools). Below is her rough sketch of a couple of ideas, celebrating her brother's woodworking planes. Updates to follow . . .

Day 265 - Priorities
My son wanted to put up a list of what we had to do today for homeschool--he really likes to check things off. I wanted him to know his priorities were all off.

Day 263 - The RustMaker
This robot has been lurking in the recesses of my cluttered mind since the beginning of my robot-making days. He finally fought his way out this weekend.
Standing a little more than 2 ft. tall, he'll be the first to admit stairs are not his strong-suit . . .
. . . though his mild-mannered appearance has been the undoing of many a hardcore robot blocker.
Taking advantage of those deceptively friendly good looks, he is quickly decimating the ranks of Robot Roller Derby. It won't be long til The RustMaker is a household name, striking fear into the hearts of tiny bots and hulking giants alike.
