Day 167 - Jack Bauer, You are my Hero

So it's New Year's Eve, I should probably have a really great, funny, yet inspirational--definitely memorable--post.  I don't.

There was a "24" marathon on, and I cut out magazine words while watching Jack Bauer save the world . . . over and over again.  That Jack Bauer can do anything.

Day 166 - I Draw Too Small

At this rate, there's a one in bazillion, gazillion chance I'll get this sketchbook done before the deadline (Jan. 13).  Why do I draw so small?

*Disclaimer:  My scanned pictures seem to make the colors/shading look weird.  Can you just pretend this looks more awesome?

Day 165 - We're Gonna Need a Tiny Toolbelt

There's a new handyman in town . . .

. . . watch out George Clooney.

George as "Facts of Life" Handyman,
for those of you not still living in the 80's.

Day 164 - Aggressive Penguin

My sister brought over a robot for repair.  In the course of fixing, I gave him a new beak.  She says it makes him look aggressive.

Day 163 - Eye Transplant?

While hanging out with the fellas, Norman made a shrewd observation:  Most of them had rather large eyes.

"Does that make them cuter?  Do I need an eye transplant?  And why don't they ever blink," he mused in his typical panicked manner.  Norman had never exuded the quiet self-confidence some others possessed, like that Undaunted Hunk o' Platypus.

Day 162 - Norman, as the Lone Ranger

Look closely--can you tell which one is Norman?

Trickier than you thought, isn't it?

Day 161 - Merry Christmas

One final gift--a treat canister for my dad who has rediscovered the love of his life . . . the soft, floppy ears of a lab puppy.

Day 160 - Quack?

Nothin' says "Merry Christmas" like an oil can duck, especially when your mom requests one.

Day 159 - Tiny Tea Bot II

My mother-in-law requested a robot ornament for Christmas, so . . .

P.S.  A bonus Bitty Bot also made a guest appearance . . . because what else do you get the person who you never asked for gift suggestions?  Hope you love it, John.

Day 158 - The Old-Fashioned Kind

Another sketch for The Sketchbook Project.  This one has old school mechanisms inside.

Day 157 - In Dog Years, I'm Dead

Norman remembered my birthday . . . so sweet and so completely unexpected.

Day 156 - Bitty Bots, Part III

The final three emerge . . . though not with the best picture quality.  You can't have it all.

And now, some group shots.

Day 155 - Bitty Bots, Part II

And a few more Bitty Bots arrive on the scene.

Day 154 - Bitty Bots, Part I

I received a custom order for 8 Bitty Bots as Christmas presents.  So I squeezed in time for Bitty Bot creation where I could.

Today, the birth of two.

Day 153 - Cosmo, Jr. at Last

I began work on Cosmo's Cousin last month and finally finished him, just in time to ship him off for a Christmas surprise.  Robot, Lamp, and Alarm Clock--all in one?!

Day 152 - Crayon Cruelty

I love a new box of sharp crayons.  But, give it a couple of days, and you end up with a bunch of dull, imprecise blobs of wax.  That stupid sharpener in the back of the box does nothing--except give you false hope.

Day 151 - Winter Wonderland

Norman, channeling Perry Como:

"Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
In the lane, snow is glistening . . ."

Now if only the stupid weather would cooperate.

Day 149 - Subterfuge

Ever since that Elf on the Shelf started lurking around the house, Norman's always on the lookout for a place to blend in.  That thing's kinda creepy if you ask me.

Day 147 - A Story with a Robot In It

One day, not any day, a Robot, a Ninja, and an Ostrich walked to a beautiful meadow.  Then the Ninja took out his i-phone and said, "I got a new app called Fruit Ninja!"  The Ostrich ran away and came back with a baby T-Rex.

"Run," yelled the Robot, but the Ninja turned to the dinosaur with a "Hi-yah!"  Than a Samurai came down from the sky and said, "I will fight you, but first, hit the music!"

The Ostrich ran away again and came back with no feathers, but he did have a sword in his mouth.  "I can't fly," yelled the Ostrich.

The Robot ignored them all because he was too busy dancing to "Mr. Roboto."  The baby T-Rex ate the Samurai and then said, "I have a big appetite."

The Ostrich ran away again and came back an hour later with the Robot's grammar test.  "Since when do I know grammar?  I'm a dancer, not a learner," said the Robot.  Then the baby T-Rex ate the Ostrich and said, "I have to get some meat on my bones."  T-Rex quickly became extinct when the Ostrich climbed out of his body and danced with the Robot.

*This story brought to you by the "Write a Sentence, Pass It On" formula for literary greatness.  It ended with near tears because my oldest boy had the T-Rex eat the Ostrich (which was my middle boy's character) and then erupted into an "animated" argument about whether or not you can just make the T-Rex go extinct, as well as whether or not an ostrich can survive being eaten.

The story had to be taken away, and rules have been set in place to not eat, maim, or kill each other's characters the next time around.

Boys.

Day 146 - Sketchbook Collage Finished!

Although this might not seem too impressive, it took forever because of how small I drew everything.  If I were to do it again, I'd definitely draw everything a little larger so it wouldn't take so long.

A look back:
The Beginning
The Middle

And now THE END!

It thought it was kinda cool when I inverted the colors in my photo editor.

Day 145 - Paper Robots

I am not (and have never been) a girly girl.  Perhaps as a consequence, I've come this far in life without ever making a row of paper dolls.

But today, it occurred to me I might be able to make a row of paper robots . . . and, as long as I'm trying that, I might as well try to make them do the wave.  'Cuz why wouldn't you?

Day 144 - I Want to Draw a Robot for You

Occasionally, I watch Shark Tank, and I saw this guy a while back (iwanttodrawacatforyou.com).  I've given it some thought, and are cats really all that cool?  Sure, they're furry and cute, etc. . . but, admit it, they're not nearly as cool as robots.  [Not even close.]

So, hey, Norman and I want to draw a robot for you!  $5 (mailed and everything) for your own personalized robot!  Email me if you're interested.

Day 143 - Woof

I'm almost finished with the creation of a close relative to my mascot.

And here he is . . . The Completed Pup:

Day 142 - Neon A-Go-Go

This bot has night vision. I'm pretty sure he's unstoppable.

P.S. Happy Birthday to my little sister! I love you even more than I love my drill press.

Day 141 - Shrinky Dinky

I was inspired by an awesome artist at the Maple Leaf Festival to harken back to my childhood craft days and re-experience the magic of Shrinky Dinks.  One word:  AWESOME!

(I put a hole in this one to use him on my keychain.)
