Day 106 - Robot/Monster/Chicken

I tried something crazy.  I sewed and made my own stuffed robot.  I guess my exceptional craftsmanship with the tote bag inspired me.

I know it's hard to believe, but I made this!  (Stop snickering--it does not look like a 6-year-old made it!)

I used some old sweat pants (with orange cargo pocket) my boys had outgrown. I then cut out the body and legs, etc. and sewed the whole thing by hand inside out. I added cut up fuzzy blue socks for arms and some glove fingers for the hair.

The best part is that his mouth opens so you can hid stuff in him!  Woo-hoo! (One of my boys kept putting random things in there and having the robot puke them out.  Boys.)

My second oldest has named him Crash and deemed him his now. The only problem is he keeps calling him a monster or a chicken. I have to keep telling him it's a robot . . . obviously!

Day 105 - Button Bot

Day 104 - Puppet Perfection

Fall crafts with my 5-year-old.  He made an owl, guess what I made?

Day 103 - Bolt Bot

Tiny, itty-bitty screws removed from a vintage typewriter and wedged in a wire basket = Robot Head (sorta)

Day 102 - Pint SIze Puppy

At long last, Norman found a robopup just his size. 

(Robopup is just under 1 1/2" tall from thimble to paw and under 2" from tail to nose.)

Day 101 - Bot-o-Lantern

I'm a stick-in-the-mud.  I don't enjoy carving pumpkins.  My boys always think it'll be great fun, but I know I'll end up doing the icky work while they goof off.  So I decided to draw on my youngest's little pumpkin and try to convince them it was just as good.

They're not buying it.

Day 100 - High Five

I realized Norman celebrated a little too early on Day 90.  Sure, 90 days is about 3 months and that seems like an accomplishment, but it clearly pales in comparison to Day 100.

That's 100 robots.

100 days of creating.

I sure didn't think I'd make it this far.  Can't wait to see what the next 265 days bring!

Day 99 - Torn

After a stressful couple of weeks of art show preparation and non-stop adrenaline, I crashed today.  So while Day 99 isn't all that earthshattering, it's still something new. 

I tore out this robot silhouette from a post-it note.  That's right, no scissors were used in the making of this robot.  Fantastic, isn't it?

Day 98 - Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs

This little robot cuckoo bird may have lost its original clock home, but she doesn’t seem to mind. She’s decided to roost in this hollowed out Steampunk tabletop version instead.

Plus, Cuckoo is the perfect subject for easily distracted birdwatchers. It's almost like she never moves.

Day 93 - Robotic Fish

So you haven’t had the best track record with pets, but you long for the companionship that has long eluded you. Robotic fish are the answer. (These two fish are of the rare Steampunk species that feature intricate etching on their graceful bodies.) With metal seaweed and rocks, you won’t need to spend time cleaning this gumball tank, and the cherry red color will brighten any room. It’s pet perfection.

A vintage dictionary page is now the background for your newest and bestest robot friend.  Made from clock parts and other metal found objects, he may seem a little dirty, but with that flower to offer, who cares?

Day 91 - Brainwashing?

As I was drawing robots at the school table, I looked up to find my five-year-old drawing this.  The explanation about each button's function was quite extensive--I'll leave it to your imagination.

Day 88 - Robot Flight

WARNING!!!  SPOILER ALERT IF YOUR NAME IS CHRIS NIILEKSELA.

Due to the fact that robots are generally clunky and not prone to graceful flight, this little guy is testing out his jet propeller, donned with goggles and a safety harness . . . you know, just in case.

(Ability to spin rapidly on salvaged typewriter arm.  Smoke plume at no extra charge.)

Day 87 - Fun at Work

You say you need a business card holder . . . and a robot?  Well, by golly, today's your lucky day!

This little bot has a tight hold on the card holder (made from vintage dominos).
 

Peek-a-boo, anyone?  It's not just a kids' game anymore.

Day 86 - UFR Sighting

There was a brief UFR (Unidentified Flying Robot) sighting today in Baldwin City, KS.

Yes, I turned my alien dog spaceship into a night light!  Woo-hoo!

Day 85 - Text Art

I saw this awesome piece of art (thisiscolossal.com) and thought I'd try a rudimentary version myself.  I sketched a cog (albeit a slightly askew, quite imperfect one) and started filling in with lines of "robot" repeated over and over.  After spending about 2 1/2 hours on it, this is as far as I've gotten.

I'm hoping to finish it after my upcoming art show stops taking over my life.

Day 84 - Robo Tic-Tac-Toe 2.0

I took the robo Tic-Tac-Toe idea I had a while back and made a computer version with three different robot models.  I'm going to make a portable game using an altoids tin, magnets, and, of course, nuts and bolts.  Pictures of finished product to come . . .

Day 83 - Norman and the Buckin' Bronco

Norman secretly liked to think of himself as a daredevil. 

As most things in his life, it didn't go as well as he hoped.  Run, Norman, the drooling monster is coming, and he looks hungry!

Day 82 - Chore Coins

I'm a parent first and foremost . . . at least that's my excuse for these not-very-exciting robot chore coins.  Hey, there's robots, and I had to punch all of them out--it counts.

 

Day 81 - Silhouette Robo Art

I saw some framed art that used old book pages as a background with various silhouettes printed on top.  I couldn't find any robot silhouettes I liked, so I decided to just draw my own for these little frames. 

Turns out, I like the non-silhouette robot better. 

The only drawback is that I'd have to hand-draw each piece, and I already--um--"struggle" with time management.
